School furnished with beer festival funds

MACCLESFIELD’S top beer-swilling attraction has proved a very worthwhile fundraiser yet again.

The cash has been counted from the 14th Macclesfield Beer Festival, which wowed crowds with the best of local music talent and kept everyone merry with a vast array of ales.

Organisers confirmed that this year’s festival was the most successful to date, with record numbers in attendance and funds raised for Park Lane School reaching a grand total of £18,000.

Acting headteacher at Park Lane School, Lorraine Warmer, said: "We knew we were the sole beneficiary this year, but we had no idea how much money we would get.

"We are absolutely thrilled and it was a real shock. We will use the money to put a canopy over the lower playground that we have covered with a safe surface.  The children can then play out in all weather and it can be used as an outside classroom. It’s something that would not have been possible without the beer festival donation."

Festival and Macclesfield Round Table chairman Chris Davies said: "It’s great to see the local community supporting a local worthy cause.  We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone involved as this doesn’t happen without time and effort. A special mention needs to go to the hard work and dedication of Mickey Jones and Trevor Gammage and Arighi Bianchi, Balti Kitchen and the Macclesfield Express for their support in making this event so successful."

Credit Crunch drives people to drink more, clearly. Good news that this school benefits though. Well done to all concerned.
