A new logo? That’ll be £250,000, please

THE NEW logo for Cheshire East has been unveiled, bringing Macclesfield borough one step closer to becoming part of the unitary council...at a cost of £250,000.

The quarter of a million pound ‘Wheatsheaf’ – now in orange and green – tickled the public’s fancy in a survey, relegating MBC’s historic coat of arms to the sidelines.

More than 2,000 voters responded to the pubic consultation of three shortlisted graphics, which was whittled down to the blend of Cheshire county’s bundled wheat as the most appropriate representation of the new council.

The £250,000 budget will now finance alterations to 200 building signs, 160 play areas, 400 council vehicles, 14,200 staff badges, 2,500 staff uniforms and countless wheelie bins across Macclesfield, Crewe, Nantwich and Congleton.

But Macclesfield hasn’t let go of the reins completely, as the winning design was by Jan Johnson, MBC’s in-house graphic designer.

She said: "I am proud that it was chosen – my mum’s ever so proud too, especially when we start seeing it appearing on letters. In design terms, I chose the colour green for life and rejuvenation, orange for being bold, friendly and cheerful, and the combination of the two promotes harmony and well being."

And the design responsibility will continue to lie with the Macclesfield department until the final proofs are rolled out across other design teams in Cheshire East.

It is also hoped that the new image will help clear up any confusion over the new authority itself.

Councillor David Brown, portfolio holder for performance and capacity, said: "We’ve got to get over to the public that from April 1, there will be one council.  There needs to be a clear identity, not just for the public but also for the staff who work in the organisation."

The new badge will soon begin to appear on stationery and publications across the borough, with the aim to adorn every Cheshire East object, and employee, by 2011.

i wonder how much macc council has lost of the ratepayers money in iceland? Its obvious to me that all councils that have done this . Have been stupid no brains greedy idiots, trying to cash in on the high interest rates in that country offered. But had they looked at iceland as a whole such a poor country they would have seen that iceland could not have afforded anyway to pay the high rates of interest that they were offering in the first place. This is the brain power, of all the fat cats on 100k and more in some councils today just proves they are not worth those sort of wages in the first place. Why did they do it? well i presume so that there would be more money in the council coffers for higher pensions for them off the ratepayers at the end of there jobs. And also to have designer logos and look good as well, and making them feel proud of themselves at frittering such large sums of the ratepayers money away. Not to mention there fat cat salaries. After all they have been so clever at investing the ratepayers money in clever ways so money is no object to them. SO THEY THOUGHT. who do they think they are? They are just a set of two bit gamblers thats all. The money they sent over. (Some police authorities have done this as well). Was what was needed to be spent by These cuoncils on the services paid for by the ratepayers and badly needed by the ratepayers.but has now been squandered away and lost forever by the fat Cats in the councils. ITS ABOUT TIME THESE FAT CATS WERE PUT ON DIETS. AND PRUNED DOWN A BIT ANYWAY.
