Three more £100K jobs on offer at council

THE TEAM of four senior officers to lead the new Cheshire East Authority will cost taxpayers almost £700,000 a year, it has been revealed.

Three strategic directors – for people, places and performance and capacity – are being sought to join the council’s chief executive and complete the corporate management team ready for next April’s transfer to the unitary council.

The total bill for the quartet, footed by residents, will be £674,560 each year, though none of the four will receive performance-related pay or bonuses.

The strategic director for people – covering education, social care, cultural and recreational services – will be paid £130,000.

Strategic director for places – responsible for council planning, transport, waste, housing, and environment – will earn £112,000, as will the strategic director for performance and capacity – covering finances, legal issues, human resources, property and computer systems.

All three posts were advertised this week on Cheshire East’s official website.

Unlike the chief executive post, no outside employment posting sites have been used.

The three flat rate salaries will cost £354,000 a year, which, with an additional 28 percent added to account for pension schemes and national insurance contributions made by the authority, adds up to £453,120 for the trio, who will work with new chief executive Erika Wenzel – named last month.

Her own salary will be £173,000 – £221,440 including the 28pc mark-up for insurance and pensions.

Another tier of yet-to-be advertised directors will then work below the corporate team.

The structure differs from Cheshire West and Chester Council, which will administer the other side of the county through a chief executive and six directors in charge of resources, regeneration and culture, environment, children and young people, community, and adult services. Each will be paid salaries of between £90,000 and £108,000 a year.

Newly appointed chief executive, Steve Robinson, will get £173,000, the same as Erika Wenzel.

S.C. The long lunch? do you mean siesta? No i do not have that. if you take two hours off for siesta, it means you have then got to work till 7 or 8 oclock at night to make your hours up. Not many do that now, except the shops in the canarian towns away from the resorts. I work 8am till 4.30 pm with only half an hour break
