Help us save post offices from closure

TODAY the Macclesfield Express joins the fight to save our local post offices following the announcement of plans to close six across the town.

We believe a post office should be at the heart of every community.

And, following the shock announcement that branches in Sutton, Bollington, Broken Cross, Gawsworth, Bollinbrook and Poynton are facing the chop, we are calling for them all to be saved.

As the future of the six hangs in the balance, we are urging our army of readers to rally together and show their support.

A six-week public consultation began at the start of the month on whether the branches chosen for closure are the right ones to go, and this is the time for the public to prove to the Post Office bosses that they have made the wrong decisions here in Macclesfield and force them to reconsider.

The consultation will decide which offices stay and go using certain "access criteria" and the government has said that 90 per cent of the population should be within a mile of the nearest branch.

London bosses could yet reconsider the closures if enough support is generated within our communities.
