Firefighters battle blaze through the night

FIREFIGHTERS across Cheshire were scrambled to Macclesfield last night (Tuesday, May 27) to battle a blaze that gutted a warehouse full of cardboard.

A total of ten fire crews rushed to burning units in Redwood Court, on Tytherington Business Park, at 8pm, and fought the flames until after dawn today (Wednesday).

The crews – from Macclesfield, Bollington, Poynton, Winsford and Congleton – tackled the blaze with high pressure hoses and breathing apparatus until the scene was secure.

The fire was contained within two warehouse units used by Bettapack cardboard packaging company, on Redwood Court, off Larkwood Way, station manager Martin Dowle said.

No-one was working in the building when the blaze erupted, and fire teams are still investigating the cause of the incident.

The Silk Road (A523) has been closed between Hibel Road roundabout, next to Tesco, and the Flash Lane roundabout, in both directions.

Barriers are likely to remain until early this afternoon.
