Beer we go - ale festival is ready to roll

7/ 5/2008

THE ALE is on tap, the bands are booked, the sponsors are in the bank, and the 14th annual Macclesfield Beer Festival is ready to roll.

And as the pint pots glisten in the Silk Town sun, tickets for the nectar-fuelled event are like gold-dust.

Festival chairman Chris Davies said: “Tickets are selling as quickly as expected and I would like to remind people they can’t pay on the door so you should get your tickets soon.

“We are doing our best to make as many beers as possible available throughout the festival so it should be a fantastic event.”

And the event will not only tickle tastebuds with a massive array of 100 awsome ales – it will dance all over your ear drums too, with a fantastic live line-up in store.

In a musical coup, organisers have booked the Screaming Beavers, who are making their festival debut, with well-loved favourites Dazed and Confused returning to support them.

Chris added: “Getting the Screaming Beavers was a real masterstroke by our sponsorship co-ordinator, Micky Jones, as the band have a massive following.”

And as if the beer and bands were not enough, some pint-sized pupils are set to benefit from your drinking.

This year’s good cause is Park Lane Special School, which aims to give pupils independence and experience in the wider community as well as delivering the national curriculum.

Headteacher Dave Calver said: “We can certainly use the support of the festival and were delighted to be chosen this year.”

He said money raised would build an outdoor classroom for use throughout the year and fund a variety of communication aids.  And Chris added: “The school is a very deserving local cause where the contribution made by the festival will be very effective.”

Sponsored by the Macclesfield Express, the Balti Kitchen, on Park Green and Arighi Bianchi – as well as hundreds of others – this really is a community event.

There will also be fine wines and cider to sample, as well as soft drinks for designated drivers.

The 14th Annual Beer Festival will take place tomorrow (Friday, May 9) and Saturday, May 10, at Macclesfield Rugby Club on Priory Lane. Tickets cost £10, including a commemorative pint glass and programme and are available from the Express office, on Chestergate and the usual pub outlets.

You can also contact Chris by email on macclesfieldbeerfestival@live.co.uk. If you want to sponsor a barrel or place an advert in the programme, contact Mickey Jones on 07818017781.
