BROKEN CROSS: Penny Meakin (Con)

25/ 4/2008

I AM the mother of two sons aged twenty-two and sixteen, I have lived and worked in the area for the last twenty years. I live in the Broken Cross Ward and my husband and I run a locally based family business.  I feel fortunate to have settled within the unique amalgamation of outstanding natural rural beauty and lively urban districts which characterises our local area.

I was recently awarded an honours degree in Social Sciences and Politics by The Open University and hold a diploma in Government and Politics. A long standing interest in popular politics and society prompted the subject of my degree and has enabled a sound understanding of both the principles and procedures of local government and the needs of communities.

I consider it is of utmost importance that councillors are accessible to their constituents and communicate straightforwardly, are prepared to listen and work as a team to appropriately resolve problems.

I believe in caring for the environment and continuing to build upon the foundation of promoting and preserving our community as a safe place, one, in which, it is possible to enjoy a good quality of life. The needs of children should be addressed in areas which will enable them to flourish and achieve their individual potential as does the respect and requirements of the elderly members of our community.

Quite simply the level of service and commitment I offer is one, which, as a fellow constituent I would wish and expect to receive myself.
