BASIL has served as a Conservative councillor on Macclesfield Borough Council for ten years.

As he was not re-selected as a Conservative candidate by the party, he is standing in these elections as himself.  Married to Ann, with grown up children, he has lived in Fulshaw for 30 years.

Now retired, he previously worked in textiles for 30 years before becoming export director of a Manchester-based international company. As an ex-serviceman, Basil maintains his interest in welfare for ex-servicemen and women and is secretary of the Royal Mechanical Electrical Engineers.

He is also a member of the Wilmslow Historical Society, the British Legion and the National Trust.

As a borough councillor, Basil currently serves on the planning and standards committee, as well as the council for voluntary services, the vice chairman of resources and a board member of Cheshire Peaks and Plains Housing Trust.

If elected, Basil said: “I will work to retain and protect the Alderley ward as a residential area with better street lighting, CCTV coverage and champion car parking and congestion issues.

“Additional funds for road repairs is a priority and the enforcement of street parking restrictions becomes our latest challenge when the police hand over responsibility on May 14.”
