MACCLESFIELD FOREST: Hilda Gaddum (Con)

24/ 4/2008

HILDA Gaddum has been Councillor for Sutton since 1999.   She has lived in Sutton for over 30 years and is very involved locally as a member of the Parish Council and a long standing member of the Women’s Institute.

A regular attender of St. James’ Church, Sutton, she was for a number of years a governor of Hollinhey County Primary School.   She is also a Red Cross nominated Trustee of the Lyme Green Settlement.

In recent years the Borough Council has been seeking more affordable housing either for rental or to buy and this is a vital priority at a time when house prices are so high in the area.

The Green Belt surrounding the town of Macclesfield is of fundamental importance and she believes strongly it should be retained.

Hilda currently chairs the Planning Committee of Macclesfield Borough Council and also holds the Borough’s only seat on the Peak District National Park Authority.   Having chaired its Audit and Performance Committee, she is currently Deputy Chair of the Authority.

She says:  “This is both a very challenging and exciting time to be involved in the local political scene in setting up the new authority of Cheshire East.   There are many occasions when it is not clear whether something is a responsibility of the Borough or County Council.  This should no longer be the case.

“I should very much like to be involved in this role and pledge to serve the whole community whatever political background if elected.”
