BROKEN CROSS: David Freear (Con)

I HAVE  lived in the middle of Broken Cross Ward, on Prestbury Road, for over 20 years with my wife, Doreen, a local solicitor. I have two sons, brought up in Macclesfield, but now working elsewhere. I am a Chartered Quantity Surveyor and have run my own business in Macclesfield for a number of years.

I have been County Councillor for Macclesfield Broken Cross since 2001, and Executive Member for Human Resources (in the County Council “Cabinet”) since 2003. I am a member of Cheshire Fire Authority and a governor of Fallibroome and Macclesfield High Schools. Prior to last autumn I had been a governor of Whirley Primary School for six years.

I believe that councillors should be accessible, and should follow up contact made with them by constituents, putting forward, as appropriate, comments and views expressed to them and seeking to solve problems. I will protect and promote the environment and interests of Broken Cross and Macclesfield town to make sure they continue to be good places to live and work.

I believe residents are entitled to receive high quality services at an affordable level of Council Tax, and I recognise that this is a major item in most household budgets. Opportunities for children to thrive in and out of school are important, and providing for the elderly, particularly enabling them to stay in their own homes whenever possible, must be high on the agenda.
