BRENDAN MURPHY first came to Macclesfield as a pupil at the Salesian College, Shrigley. In 1998, he was elected to represent Tytherington on Macclesfield Borough Council

He read Law and American Studies at Manchester University and management at Henley Management College.

He likes classical music and jazz, playing the piano, swimming, walking, animal welfare and the “Simpsons”.

His career started in local journalism followed by PR, advertising and marketing in London and Manchester.

In 1970, he moved to the public sector initially for the first major NHS reorganisation and then in 1974 for the  reorganisation of local government in Greater Manchester.

In 1985, he joined Welsh Water as Head of Public Affairs for the privatisation process.

In 1989 he launched his own communications/behavioural research company, working nationally and internationally with clients such as BBC, ITN, Reuters, Exxon, Marriott, DTI etc

In 1994, he was elected to Cheshire County and in ‘98 elected to Macclesfield Boro’. He has served on major committees (Education, Social Services, Planning, Finance, Leisure and Highways etc) and represented Cheshire on the NW Library Consortium, NW Tourist Board, Salford University Court.
