ALDERLEY EDGE: Craig Browne (Lib Dem)

15/ 4/2008

CRAIG is 33, married and has had connections with Alderley Edge all his life.  He moved to the area in 1996 after reading economics as a student at Manchester University and currently serves as a governor at Wilmslow High School.

In 2004, he established his own consultancy business, assisting charities, voluntary groups and community organisations to secure grant funding for special projects.  He also works as an assessor for the EU Lifelong Learning Programme in Brussels.

He has worked extensively across central and eastern Europe and has recently become a trustee of STEPS Romania, a charity that aims to provide opportunities for street children in that country.

He believes passionately in the environment and will continue to campaign for more frequent and reliable train/bus services, as well as the introduction of more cycle routes, encouraging motorists to minimise their car journeys where possible.

He supports the building of the Alderley Edge by-pass, but believes the scheme should seek to minimise any negative environmental impact and be sensitive to the wishes of residents in surrounding villages, e.g. Nether Alderley.

He intends to work with all Parish Councils in the area in order to identify and help implement their priorities in terms of improved pavements, more disabled parking spaces and better amenities, such as parks and green spaces.

Craig added: “If elected, I pledge to work with colleagues of all political persuasions on the new Cheshire East Authority to ensure that the kerbside collection of all plastic waste finally becomes a reality.”
