Deadline looming for election nominations

YOU NOW have only two days to put your name forward to become a councillor in the forthcoming Cheshire East shadow elections.
The deadline to put your hat into the ring and take to the hustings to represent the people of your area is noon this Friday (April 4).
Although you will not become a councillor until April 2009, you will be part of the ‘shadow council’ overseeing the implementation of the new Cheshire East unitary authority.
The single-tier system will replace the old Macclesfield Borough Council and Cheshire County Council in 2009 and there are 12 new wards, along the county divisions, giving a total of 36 seats for Macclesfield in the new council.
With the old system scrapped, the main political parties are keeping tight-lipped about their candidates until after the deadline and the upcoming May election is set to go to the wire.
The ‘Prospectus for Potential Councillors’ has been issued to outline what it takes to be a member of the new organisation.
To become a candidate for the elections, people do not have to be affiliated to a political party.
Copies of the ‘councillor pack’ are available from libraries and council offices, and can be downloaded from www.macclesfield.gov.uk/cheshire-east, or obtained by telephone on 01625 500500.
