Governor’s concern over schools review delay

THE GOVERNOR of a school threatened with closure has expressed concern over the uncertainty surrounding the decision.

The Macclesfield Express reported last month that all resolutions for Transforming Learning Communities (TLC) could be put on hold until after the election of the shadow authority for Cheshire East in May.

However, Councillor Brian Puddicombe, a governor at St Edward’s, says this has left children, parents and staff on the Moss Estate unsure about what the future holds.

Cheshire County Council Schools Planning Select Committee is meeting this Monday, March 17, to give guidance to the director of children’s services, Coun David Rowlands, so that the elected shadow authority can be consulted following the ballot on May 1.

Coun Puddicombe said: "It is clear what the future should be for education on the Moss Estate and I hope appropriate assurances can be given to the local community as soon as possible.

"There is the exciting new venture of a joint faith school. The education authorities need to work with the Catholic and Church of England dioceses so that this school can build on the excellent work previously done by St Edward’s and St Barnabas.

"Then Ash Grove needs to be supported to provide an excellent community school to run alongside the Children’s Centre on the same site that is due to open in April."

He added: "This should be the future for the Moss Estate schools and I hope this is the message that comes out of County Hall next week. Our children’s education should come first and must not be the subject of political posturing over local government reform."
