Concerns have been raised by locals after plans were unveiled for music events at Macclesfield forest.

A licensing application has been submitted to Cheshire East council to play music and sell alcohol at a site on Ridgegate Road, Langley, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from midday to midnight EVERY WEEK.

Residents have raised objections to the application, raising concerns over noise, increased traffic and anti-social behaviour.

The application by Francis Louis Smith and Sandy Giles Weston relates to a site named ‘The Forest Marquee and grounds’, on Ridgegate Road, Langley.

It does not give details on what kind of events would be held or how many people would be accommodated.

Residents met last night to discuss the issue and have formed a committee to fight the plans.

Coun Hilda Gaddum, Cheshire East councillor for Sutton, said residents have contacted her with concerns.

She said: “Local people are absolutely distraught about this. They are going to hate this.

“It’s a peaceful area, the last thing they want is this to happen.

“It wouldn’t be as much of a problem if it was a one-off, but if it was happening every single weekend from noon until midnight it will be awful.

“There are already so many parking problems up there it would be better used as a car park.”

Concerns have also been raised on the Langley Village Facebook page.

Tessa Whiskard said: “What impact will that have on the parking?!”

Macclesfield Forest is owned and managed by water company United Utilities.

Marcus Lonyon, who lives nearby, said: “This is a catchment area for the water supply and should not be used for events like this.”

The Express was unable to contact the applicants for a comment on the application.

We have also asked United Utilities for their views and are awaiting their response.

Representations should be made by March 16 to The Licensing Section, Cheshire East Council, Municipal Buildings, Earle Street, Crewe, Cheshire, CW1 2BJ.
