A pub has won acclaim for the quality and success of its business and its toilets – which are far from bog standard.

The Ship in Styal has been named winner of Best Pub Loos and joint winner of Best Turnaround Pub for the north west region in the Great British Pub Awards 2014.

Katerina Novotna, general manager, said: “Everybody has worked extremely hard over the last year to help The Ship become a focal point in the village and to also ensure that all our customers, both regular and new, enjoy every visit with us, and we are really proud and excited to have been recognised and also win two awards, so now it’s fingers crossed for the national awards on the 11.”

The awards are organised by leading pub industry magazine, the Publican’s Morning Advertiser.

Rob Willock, editor, says: “The turnaround awards recognise pubs that demonstrate the best turnaround of business in the past year.

“The pub has been given an amazing refurbishment and has a great food and drink offer, all served by friendly and efficient staff.”

Willock added: “The judges were really impressed with the quality of the Ship’s toilets, which are far from bog standard.”

The pub will now go forward to the Great British Pub Awards 2014 national final, held at the Hilton Hotel, Park Lane, London, on Thursday, September 11.

It will go head to head with other regional winners for the UK titles of ‘Best Pub Loos 2014’ and ‘Best Turnaround Pub 2014’.

The Ship will also have the opportunity to compete for the overall champions of champion’s title of ‘Great British Pub of the Year 2014.’
