HUNDREDS of people joined in the fun for all the family at Poynton Village Fair.

The fair was the brainchild of Kerry Burgess, the owner of Cheshire Books, and is a new commercial venture to promote local artisans.

Peppa Pig and the gang from the Disney film Frozen were among the stars at the event at Poynton Civic Hall.

There was a display of reptiles, spiders and snakes.

Among those who attended was Macclesfield MP David Rutley and Malcolm Adams, the Poynton Town Council clerk.

Speaking at the event, Mr Rutley said, “I would like to thank Kerry and the other organisers, for all their hard work in ensuring that this exciting new initiative was a success. “A lot of people are keen to shop locally whenever possible, so today provided them with the opportunity to do so and for traders to meet new customers.

“I am very encouraged by the number of people who attended.”

Kerry Burgess said: “Hundreds of people came to the event and enjoyed sampling the cheese, viewing the gifts, families enjoyed looking at the reptiles, spiders and the snake and lots more.

“The purpose of the event is to showcase the community and remind people that local businesses, crafters and organisations are the heartbeat of our towns.”
