Police have been criticised for parking one of its cars across the width of the pavement.

A witness claims the ‘irresponsible’ act caused pedestrians, including elderly people and parents with prams to walk into the street.

Marianne Sparkes, 22, who snapped the incident on Park Green on Wednesday, October 19, has demanded police explained their actions.

The mum of two said: “The pavement is for people not cars. The police car was across the whole of the pavement meaning people were struggling to get around it and walking into the street. It was completely irresponsible.

“There were no flashing lights, no officers around, so it didn’t seem like an emergency. On that basis I would have expected them to use in the car park right next to where they were.

“If a member of the public was caught doing this, they would be fined. I want the police to explain themselves.”

A spokesman for the police said: “The circumstances around this are unknown and we are currently looking into it.”
