More than 650 runners pounded the streets for this year’s Macclesfield Half Marathon.

The 13-mile run took place for the 14th time from Macclesfield Leisure Centre, along with a 5k course and fun run, all organised by a team of 130 marshals from Macclesfield Harriers. And for the first time pace runners took part to help runners achieve target times.

The race was won by James Scott-Buccleuch of Stockport Harriers in a time of 01:14:32 and Victoria Perry was the fastest female in a time of 01:31:41.

Neil Gunn, chief marshal from Macclesfield Harriers, said: “It was a fantastic day and we’ve had great feedback about the job done by our marshals.”

Money raised is being donated to the East Cheshire Hospice appeal to buy 17 replacement beds, each costing just over £9,000. Race organisers hope the event will buy one of the beds.

Jessica Ruth, hospice event manager, said: “We’d like to thank all of those who took part in the race. Our Bed Appeal is a significant fundraising initiative and we are delighted the community can support it through events such as the Half Marathon.”
