Around 1,000 visitors attended a summer fete in aid of a well-loved charity.

Friends, family and supporters of the Rossendale Trust flocked to the annual event at the charity on Hollin Lane in Sutton which supports adults with learning disabilities.

They enjoyed cream teas, raffle, barbecue, live music, stalls and other traditional fete attractions.

The fete is the day when supporters gather in the gardens at Rossendale Hall and catch up on the news. The trust has been a key part of the community since the organisation was founded in the 70s.

Sue Heaven, head of fundraising, said: “It was wonderful seeing so many people coming to support the trust, the money raised will be used to directly help the tenants in so many ways. Thank you to everyone who helped make it such a great day.”

The fete raised more than £8,500 for a fund which enables the people cared for by the trust to live more independently in the community around them.

Wincle Brewery and the trust launched Rossendale Gold ale to conincide with the start of the Olympics in Brazil. The bewery is donating 10p from each pint to the trust for a year.
