A new food market at Adelphi Mill is to be launched in Bollington.

The team behind Bollington’s Artisan Market is launching the new venture at Adelphi Mill to showcase local food.

The event is being billed as an opportunity for restaurants and food producers to meet residents and sell their produce.

It is being led by Suzanne Gill, a jewellery maker who launched the Artisan Market at Clarance Mill with Debra Tracey-Carney and friends last year.

The market - on the first Sunday of each month - was launched to provide Bollington’s makers and craftspeople with an opportunity to sell their items.

But Suzanne (pictured) found she was getting interest from food sellers too.

Suzanne said: “I was hearing from food sellers who wanted to be part of the market, but we didn’t want food at the Artisan as there is a cafe at Clarence Mill.

“So I thought I would set up a separate event for the food and have been signing up vendors to take part.

“I hope to have around 30 vendors and some of the stallholders from the Artisan Market may join us, we may have an area for kids too.

“It’s not a money venture, it’s all about the community and any money made will go to community projects.

“We’re not competing with the Treacle Market in Macclesfield, this is for Bollington to have something of its own and for people to buy locally.

“The Adelphi group have been great in letting me use the mills and the town council has been very supportive in letting us use gazebos. It’s been a real team effort.”

Suzanne is among those who appears at the Artisan Market as she makes jewellery and glassware made from sea glass. She finds the discarded glass washed up on beaches after it has been eroded and smoothed by the sea.

Suzanne said: “I love what I do, and have been sent sea glass from all over the world. It’s been great to be part of the Artisan Market which has been well supported by creative and talented people from Bollington.

“There is such a great artistic community in Bollington.”

The first food market is on Sunday, March 22, 10am to 3pm, and on the third Sunday of every month.

The next Artisan Market is on Sunday, March 1 at Clarence Mill, 10am to 3pm.
