The team at a new Argentinian restaurant were among those kicking off the town’s first Food and Drink Week.

CAU, on Water Lane, is the first branch of the Buenos Aires inspired restaurant to open in the north.

It sells contemporary cuisine inspired by the capital, with special cuts of Argentinian beef prominent on the all-day menu.

It opened just in time to join in with the inaugural ‘Wilmslow Food and Drink Week’, which was set up by Wilmslow Business Group to celebrate the culinary delights the town has to offer.

The team at CAU are running a beef and empanada masterclass and Malbec wine tasting as part of a series of special events to mark the week.

Graham Hall, operations director, said the restaurant is an exciting addition to Wilmslow.

He said: “Our speciality cuts are obviously something very special, quite unique for the high street but it’s the attention to detail and the ethos of making everything fresh on site that really sets us apart from the rest.”

Restaurants, coffee shops and bakers are among those taking part in food week.

There is a coffee tasting at Rise on Thursday from 6.30pm to 8.30pm, wine tasting at Majestic Wine Wilmslow, from 6pm to 8pm and beer tasting at The Old Dancer from 8pm.

Also on Thursday is a book signing and demonstration at Waterstones from 1pm to 3pm, with Chilli Banana and food and wine tasting at Stolen Lamb, from 7pm to 9pm.

On Friday, from 1.30pm to 4pm, Earlams Community Store in Styal is having a food tasting, and there is a wine tasting at the Bollin Fee from 5pm.

A Man v Food challenge will take place at Revolution from 5pm, a wine tasting at Waitrose from 10am to 6pm, and Claire Burt will be at Earlams for a food, cheese and wine making workshop, from 7.30pm to 9pm.

On Saturday from 10am there is a ‘Cake off’ competition at truKitchen. Visitors can Meet the Hens at Rise, and Earlams will launch two ales from 2.30pm to 5pm.

The week will culminate in a special Artisan Market on Saturday, from 10am to 4pm on Alderley Road, when producers will give talks and do demonstrations.

KidzKitchen will be running children’s cookery workshops throughout the day outside Hoopers and there will be entertainment from Loose Buskers and Dance Fever.
