The musical headliners for this year’s Barnaby festival have been exclusively revealed by The Express.

Legends The Blockheads, The Charlatan’s Tim Burgess, pictured, and New Order’s Stephen Morris will all top the bill of Macclesfield’s premier summer festival.

Famous for classic hits such as What a Waste and Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick, the Blockheads kick off the festival’s Big Weekend (June 20 to 22) at Christ Church, Park Green, Macclesfield.

The weekend’s finale will be a musical extravaganza at the church on the Sunday featuring Tim Burgess, Macclesfield’s Jake Evans and Manc wordsmith Mike Garry.

They’ll perform acoustic sets alongside string arrangements by renowned composer Joe Duddell. Tickets cost £18.

The distinctive pop-up café Tim Peaks Diner, created by Burgess in honour of filmmaker David Lynch, will also host a variety of acts during the big weekend on the church’s lawns.

Tim will be interviewed at the diner on Saturday and there will be performances by entertainers, new bands and special guests.

On the Sunday New Order’s Gillian Gilbert will join forces with Nik Void from Factory Floor for a DJ set, assembling an eclectic, unpredictable and occasionally bewildering sound.

On the same day Tim and New Order drummer Stephen Morris will share their thoughts about everything from the early days of the Macclesfield music scene, to the genesis of Joy Division and New Order, through to current influences.

All performances at Tim Peaks Diner are free.

Stephen said: “We go back a long way, Christ Church and me. All the way to 1963 – the year I started at the primary school down the road.

“With each passing year, I have looked at the place misty eyed and said to myself ‘wouldn’t it be great if the building got used for something again?’, and now it is.”

Tickets for all events, as well listings for Barnaby, are available at barnabyfestival.org.uk. Tickets will be available from the Visitor Information Centre in Macclesfield Town Hall from the end of April.
