The Mayor of Macclesfield swapped her chains for a spade when she planted a tree to commemorate the Queen’s birthday.
The tree, which was planted by Coun Liz Durham and now stands proudly in the churchyard at St Michael’s Church in the Market Place, is the first of 90 which have been funded by Macclesfield Town Council in honour of the Queen’s 90 years.
And the other 89 trees bought by the council are now up for grabs, with charities, education facilities and community groups encouraged to apply for a tree to plant for themselves.

Coun Gareth Jones, who is leading the project with Coun Adam Schofield, said: “As a town council we wanted to mark the Queen’s very special birthday throughout Macclesfield whilst involving as much of our community as possible.
“Ninety additional trees throughout the town is great for the environment and will hopefully engage all members of the community as each group hold their own tree planting ceremony.”
