A man pointed police in the right direction of his cannabis stash after officers searched his home, a court heard.

Martin Moorcroft had his house on Cornbrook Road, Macclesfield, searched by police after they executed a drugs warrant, a hearing heard.

And after police entered his property, he directed them to a brown box in a kitchen cupboard that had £5 worth of cannabis in, the hearing was told.

After receiving a summons to court Moorcroft, 27, pleaded guilty to possessing a class B drug at a hearing at Macclesfield Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (November 13).

He was fined £150 pounds for possessing the drugs and for breaching a conditional discharge handed to him almost 12 months earlier for another charge of possessing cannabis.

Debbie Byrne, prosecuting, said: “After police executed the warrant Mr Moorcroft directed them to the kitchen and a brown box which had a snap bag with cannabis in. He said it was his and that he smoked about an eighth every few days. The value of drugs found was £5.

“He has 32 previous court appearances for 60 offences.”

Caroline King, defending, told the court that Moorcroft was trying to sort out his drug problems.

She said: “He was told what the police were there for when they went to his home address and he said I have nothing to hide all there is is a bit of cannabis. He understands cannabis is illegal but he only uses it in his own home.

“His record is lengthy but he has stayed out of court for some time he is trying to deal with the difficulties he has experienced with cannabis.”

Moorcroft was also ordered to pay £85 costs to the court.
