A man who subjected his ex-girlfriend to ‘menacing’ behaviour has been warned he could be jailed.

Robert Rowe, 28, harassed his former partner by plaguing her with a series of ‘unpleasant’ messages before verbally abusing her face to face.

He was also accused of loitering outside her house ear wigging on a private conversation with her dad, which he then referenced in text messages.

Bizarrely he then sent a photo off a pair of men’s jeans which had been hanging on the victim’s washing line.

At Stockport magistrates’ court, Rowe, of Ash Grove, Macclesfield, admitted harassment.

Kate Gaskell, prosecuting, told the court that Rowe had a history of similar behaviour with previous partners.

She said: “The victim had been in a relationship which ended in September. She said they met online but the relationship had become a controlling one.

“After the break up she began getting text messages. On October 9 she received a message that reference a conversation she had with her father in her own home. She also heard a knock on the door but didn’t answer it. It made her feel unnerved. It suggested he had been close to the house.

“Another message was send with the image of a pair of jeans on her washing line. It said he didn’t recognise the trousers and suggested that she had been cheating on him.

“Then another message on October 10 accused her of having a sexual relationship with someone else. She found these messages unpleasant and menacing.

“On October 13 he attended her property and was abusive calling her ‘pathetic’. She slammed the door in his face.”

In a statement read out in court, the victim said she had become very worried and was ‘always looking over her shoulder’.

She said: “He seems to be everywhere I am. I haven’t sleep for days and don’t feel safe.”

The court heard the Rowe had previous been convicted of harassment in 2007 where he was given a suspended prison sentence, and been served Police Information Notices (PIN) after complaints from other partners.

Tony Birchall, defending Rowe, said: “His behaviour was on the breakdown of the relationship.”

Magistrates ordered Rowe to be remanded in custody for sentencing on December 7.
