An Olympic couple who have amassed five gold medals between them are gearing up for more success in Rio.

Cyclists Laura Trott and Jason Kenny, who live in Chelford, have been pounding the Macclesfield hills ahead of the Olympic Games, due to be held in Rio in August.

Laura, 24, is hoping to add to her haul after winning two gold medals in the omnium and team pursuit cycling events at the London 2012 games.

And fiance Jason Kenny, who has three golds after triumphing in London 2012 and Beijing 2008, is hoping his training will keep him at the top of his game.

Laura, who is originally from Hertfordshire but moved to Macclesfield with Jason three years ago to be nearer to the home of British Cycling in Manchester, says that Macclesfield has been very welcoming to the couple.

She said: “We love living in Macclesfield. It’s great to have the town but be so close to the countryside. We’ve been made to feel at home here.

“We do road rides from our home in Chelford and if we want hill training we only need to head out to the Cat and Fiddle and back down through Macclesfield.

“There are different phases to my training. I have a full training diary.”

Laura Trott, from Chelford, is one of the Team GB official ambassadors for sofa retailer DFS

As a perk of her training, Laura’s home has been given a make-over by furniture company DFS, an official partner of Team GB, which she says is the perfect antidote to all her training.

She said: “With all my training, it’s important to have rest and relaxation too and now I have a lovely new living room to chill out in. When you’re training, rest is so important to get the most out of your training and let your muscles recover.

“I’m not really nervous yet but I may get more nervous when it gets closer.

“It’s really exciting for Jason and me and we just want to be ready.”

Laura was born a month prematurely with a collapsed lung and was later diagnosed with asthma. She began cycling with her mother and her talent was spotted.

Laura holds the National Road title and was also the first British woman to win two gold medals – both on home turf at the London games in 2012.

Having won numerous World and European titles as a junior, Jason won golds in Team Sprint in 2008 at Beijing, Individual Sprint for the London 2012 and retained his Team Sprint title.
