Macclesfield Town FC are on the prowl for a marquee signing after posting a job for a lion tamer.

The club are offering the unpaid position for someone to “feed and exercise” club mascot Roary the Lion on match days at the Moss Rose stadium.

The enthusiastic volunteer, who will join the National League club’s backroom team, will also be required to help with training, rehearsals and medical care.

The tongue-in-cheek job advert on the club’s website reads: “As the official ‘Lion Tamer’ of Macclesfield Town FC, you will provide a key role in making sure Roary fulfils his roles on a match day including entertaining the crowd at the Moss Rose and posing for photographs with supporters.

“No prior experience of dealing with lions is required as full training will be provided. But the successful applicant must be confident and energetic.”

The quirky job description states the applicant must:

Conduct training programs in order to develop and maintain Roary’s desired behaviours for competition, entertainment, obedience, security, riding and related areas.

Evaluate Roary in order to determine his temperament, ability, and aptitude for training.

Feed and exercise Roary and provide other general care such as cleaning and maintaining holding and performance areas.

Observe Roary’s physical conditions in order to detect illness or unhealthy conditions requiring medical care.

Train and rehearse Roary, according to scripts, for motion picture, television, film, stage, or circus performances.

Make sure Roary is able to entertain the crowd at the Moss Rose and is able to pose for selfies with supporters.
