Macclesfield Town FC has pledged to fundraise in support of a terminally-ill brother and sister.

Ollie Carroll, four, and two-year-old Amelia, who live in Poynton, have Late Infantile Batten Disease.

A rare disease without a cure, victims can lose their speech, mobility and eyesight, and many do not survive past the age of 12.

Their parents Mike and Lucy set up the Ollie’s Army campaign to raise awareness of the disease, fund Ollie and Amelia’s care and raise money for Battens Disease Family Association (BDFA), a charity which supports families like the Carrolls.

Thousands of pounds have been raised in Ollie and Amelia’s names with events throughout the year.

Now Macclesfield Town and its fundraising arm Silkmen Supporters Trust have named Ollie’s Army as its benefactor during 2016.

The partnership was launched at Macclesfield’s recent home game against Bromley where Ollie was a mascot.

Mike and Lucy said: “We would like to say a big thank you to the Silkmens Supporters Trust and MTFC for including Ollie’s Army in their recent vote to find a local cause to support for the next year. We were overwhelmed to hear that we had received the most amount of votes, especially with such deserving charities alongside us. We are now looking forward to working with Silkmens Supporters Trust and MTFC to raise awareness of Batten Disease and promote our local football club. Once again we would like to say thank you to SST and everyone who voted for Ollie’s Army.”

Club captian Paul Turnbull said: “It was an absolute honour carrying Ollie onto the pitch on Saturday. Hope he enjoyed the game and keeps that big smile on his face.”

A statement on the football club’s website said: “Macclesfield Town are delighted to announce that the Super Silk Lotto has agreed that Ollie’s Army will be the new charity partner and hopefully we will have a successful year working alongside them. The new partnership will celebrate the anniversary of the Super Silk Lotto on November 28. Ollie and his family came to the game against Bromley and enjoyed another good afternoon for John Askey’s side.”

You can support the football club and Ollie’s Army by signing up to the club’s Super Silk Lotto. It only costs £1 per week with a potential jackpot of £100 cash.
