Families braved the winter chill to enjoy the first snow fall of the season.

Macclesfield was transformed as the first heavy snow of the year covered the town and villages in a white blanket.

It didn’t take long for people to throw on their winter warmers and rush out for a day of fun.

Walkers and their four-legged friends enjoyed the views from Tegg’s Nose Country Park and Macclesfield Forest.

Children dusted off their sledges to revel in the winter wonderland of South Park.

It wasn’t all fun and games though, council highways teams have been busy treating the 1,090 kms Cheshire East road network in response to the rain, sleet and snow along with freezing temperatures.

High level routes to the east of the borough including Macclesfield have been gritted repeatedly and the team’s fleet of 19 vehicles - which includes gritters, snow blowers, snow ploughs and all-terrain quad bikes - will be in action every night while the cold snap persists.

Last Wednesday, January 13, police closed the A54 Cat and Fiddle after subzero temperatures made it too dangerous for motorists to pass.
