Inspector Steve Griffiths talks exclusively to the Express about the police investigation ...

Inspector Steve Griffiths, pictured, said: “It is fair to say that the death of 19-year-old Zain last week has shocked the community of Macclesfield and in particular the village of Sutton.

“Thankfully, this kind of incident is extremely rare in the town and the excellent response from the police and the community ensured that suspects were quickly arrested and now two young men have been charged with Zain’s murder.

“In the days after the death, my officers, PCSOs and special constables patrolled Sutton speaking to residents to gather potential evidence and offer reassurance.

“This was warmly welcomed and I am sure that in the fullness of time we will establish exactly what happened on that terrible day and reasons why.

“Speculation does nothing for confidence in the community and can actually cause far more problems than it solves.

“So I would urge the community  to let us continue to progress the investigation and the answers will come through the criminal justice process.

“The public should feel reassured by the positive results we have seen lately with two men arrested and charged following a string of armed robberies in the town.

“In both cases the suspects were not from Macclesfield and again these are not the sort of crimes we usually experience in the town.

“Macclesfield is a safe town and will continue to be as long as we continue to work together.”
