Thieves have broken into South Park’s youth hub just two months after its grand unveiling.

Created by Macclesfield teenagers to provide a community hub in South Park, the Pavilion Cafe was broken into during the evening of Tuesday, June 15.

The burglars stole two computers and a television bought by the youngsters thanks to a grant from the Youth Opportunities Fund.

Lynn Davies, area manager from Connexions, which runs the cafe alongside the youth groups, said: "It is such a shame, especially as the equipment was the result of a funding bid made by young people.

"However, the pavilion is still open for business as usual and the staff and visitors are determined to continue as normal, wi-fi is still available in the cafe."

Jez Taylor, head of Macclesfield Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "We are appealing for any witnesses who would have been in the area at the time. It’s frustrating for everyone and no doubt the staff involved with running the unit."

Connexions acquired the Pavilion in April 2010 and worked with young people from across Macclesfield to turn it into the vibrant cafe.

They successfully bid for a grant from the Youth Opportunities Fund which enabled them to kit the space out with furniture and the equipment. For more information about any future events visit stuff2doincheshire.co.uk
