MANCHESTER United legend Ryan Giggs wants members of the Macclesfield community to strap up their boots and raise "even more money" for the East Cheshire Hospice Midnight Walk sequel.

Launching the second ever hospice 10km stroll on his April visit to the charity, patron of the ‘Caring for our Future’ Capital Appeal Ryan backed Maxonians to ‘score’ a new £100,000 fundraising goal.

Ryan, an OBE recipient, said: "The £72,000 raised went towards the cost of phase one of the fantastic new development at the hospice, which I was very proud to officially open. I’d encourage everyone to get their boots on this year to raise even more money."

The date of this year’s roundtrip hike from Macclesfield Leisure Centre, through Prestbury and Tytherington, is set for Saturday, September 12, starting at midnight.

And with a new midnight strolling route comes renewed targets.

The hospice is hopeful a thousand people will walk and more than £100,000 will be raised from Midnight Walk Two.

The event has also attracted a significant sponsorship package from property provider Magnus.

The almost 600 people taking to Macclesfield’s streets last year still leaves hospice chief executive Jayne Bessant overwhelmed to this day.

She said: "We hope all our friends will walk with us again, bringing their colleagues, friends and families with them. Fancy dress is very much encouraged and there will be a prize for the best outfit. We want to make it a real party atmosphere."
