Wilmslow town centre Christmas lights switch on will have the X Factor, as TV finalist Lloyd Daniels does the honours.

The young pop star will be singing live on the Imagine FM stage on Grove Street, on Friday, November 26.

Despite missing out on taking the X Factor crown in the ITV1 singing competition last year, he has become a popular name in the music world with fans flocking to see him.

And Denise Valente, from the Wilmslow Business Group, who has helped organise the event, says she hopes he will pull in the crowds for the light switch-on.

She said: "There is such a buzz about the town, especially now we know that Lloyd will be coming to switch on the lights.

"We hope lots of people turn out to see him and enjoy the festivities.

"We are all very excited about the Christmas extravaganza."

The light switch on will be part of the town’s four day festival which will start on November 25 and will include a Continental Christmas market, ice-skating rink on Bank Square, a Santa’s grotto in Romany’s Caravan and street entertainers. Around 60 stalls will be located on the Alderley Road slip road, from Sains-bury’s to the new Joules clothing shop, and on Parsonage Green, between Little Nut Tree Toys and Yang’s Oriental Restaurant.

The Grove Street lights switch on starts from 2pm with Imag-ine FM broadcasting live. A full line up of family entertainment is scheduled from 4pm including Winnie the witch, Wilbur the Cat, Pete the Pirate, Girl band P5 and Lloyd singing live and turning on the lights at 6pm.

Opening times for the Christmas Market are: Thursday 3pm-8pm; Friday 10am-8pm; Saturday 10am-8pm; Sunday 11am-3pm.

Opening times for the grotto are: Thursday 3-6pm; Friday 3-6pm; Saturday 10-6pm; Sunday 11-3pm.
