Two brave women who suffered at the brutal hands of a burglar armed with a machine gun have offered a £5,000 reward to bring him to justice.

The traumatised victims have made the unusual offer hoping someone will come forward with information about the lone male who broke into a Prestbury home on Macclesfield Road.

The terrified women, aged 56 and 29, were forced to hand over jewellery before being tied up with rope and electrical cord on Friday, December 4, at 5pm.

The cruel invader even hit the older woman in the face.

Detective Sergeant Iain Madden, investigating officer, said: "This was a rare incident that has left the two victims uninjured, but extremely traumatised. It would appear that the offender acted alone in this instance and we are appealing for anyone who may know him, or has any information to come forward."

The reward is offered by the homeowners - who wish to remain anonymous - to lead to the successful prosecution and conviction of the burglar.

Detectives said the masked intruder ordered the women to hand over jewellery before being forced to lie on the floor.

"The pair were then tied up, bundled into the main bedroom and told to open the safe.

Police say the culprit asked the 56-year-old owner of the house for a diamond ring she usually wears.

The raider then turned aggressive, hitting one of the woman in the face - which banged her head on the floor - before fleeing.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area of Macclesfield Road at the time of the incident or near to King's School playing fields and may have witnessed anything.
