A elderly woman believed to be in her 80s was rushed to hospital with a suspected head injury this morning after being involved in a road accident.

The pedestrian was in a collision with a silver Nissan Micra outside the Topps Tiles shop on Union Street near the town centre, the road leading off the Churchill Way roundabout.

An ambulance and police attended just after 9am and she was taken to Macclesfield Hospital with a suspected head injury.

It was thought she may have other injuries and this was to be assessed at the hospital.

A witness said: "She was crossing the road and she was hit by the car. There was damage to the cars bonnet and windscreen."

There have been no arrests but police are investigating the incident and want to hear from anyone with information.

The road was closed off while emergency services dealt with the incident and reopened at 12.22pm.

A spokesman from the police said: “At 9.04am we received reports of a pedestrian in collision with a vehicle.

“The female pedestrian had a suspected head injury and there may have been other injuries to be assessed at hospital.

“We urge anyone with information to contact us.”
