A 46-year-old woman injured in a horror crash between a car and coach in Macclesfield is no longer in critical condition.

She had to be cut free from a Ford Fiesta saloon by fire crews after the collision on the A34 Congleton Road between the Monks Heath traffic lights and the junction with Mill Lane on Thursday morning.

The female driver was flown to Salford Royal hospital by air ambulance where she is being treated for serious head injuries.

Police today said the woman's injuries were no longer life-threatening but she was being treated in the hospital's high dependency unit.

Police are investigating the cause of the smash and are appealing for witnesses to the collision. Anyone with information is asked to call 0845 458 0000 quoting incident number 125 of the 13th October.
