The River Bollin burst its banks in the heavy rain at the weekend and submerged a car to its bonnet in a nearby car park.

Police responded to a call at 7.20pm on Saturday from a passer-by who saw the flooded vehicle in the car park on Styal Road, near Twinnies Bridge.

Around three feet of water had flooded into the car park.

It was the only vehicle in the car park at the time and the owners were contacted and the road was closed.

The weather caused further problems for emergency crews.

Fire fighers also attended flooding at Hawthorn Green on the same road at 11.13pm.

On Sunday morning fire fighters attended flooding five feet deep affecting electrics in the cellar at the Swan with Two Necks pub on Park Lane in Little Bollington.

The water supply was isolated and cellar pumped out.

A spokesman said: "We attended the floods to pump out water as best we could, make sure the gas and electricity were safe and help move items to a higher level."
