The world's best football freestyler will coach young fans as part of a series of events to get the town in the mood for the World Cup.

John Farnworth, the current four times Guinness World Record football freestyler, will teach young players some tricks during the project by Wilmslow-based football coaching company PFC.

The company is launching events and competitions for schools, junior football clubs and parents to celebrate the World Cup which starts in Brazil on June 12.

The events include free Brazilian soccer skills sessions for school children and a mini World Cup tournament for junior clubs. PFC’s own footballing freestyler, known as ‘The Baron’, is expected to have a head to head freestyle battle with John Farnworth before the World Cup Final in July.

Russell Burling, from PFC, said: “We’re launching these events to get everyone in the World Cup mood.

“Our aim at PFC is to improve the opportunities for all children and young people who wish to play sports.

“We’re a Wilmslow-based company coaching lots of Wilmslow youngsters and are looking forward to supporting all the World Cup events in the town.”

On Saturday there was a Tournament of Champions at Wilmslow High School, and every day from Tuesday, May 27 to Friday, May 30, 9am to 3.30pm the school will host World Cup holiday camps.

The visit by John Farnworth is on Wednesday, June 4, from 5pm to 6pm.
