A former chocolate shop could be turned into a speakeasy-style cocktail bar if plans are given the go ahead.

Danny Midgelow, 27, of Lacey Green, wants to turn the former premises of Simon Dunn’s Chocolatiers, on Alderley Road, into a ‘Gatsby-chic’ traditional tea-room by day and an over 21s speakeasy cocktail bar by night.

Mr Midgelow, pictured , who has previously organised student nights at Revolution, is keen to make the most of the premises after Simon Dunn quit the site siting high rents and increasing business rates.

He said: “This is a completely different business to Simon Dunn’s.

“I will be using both floors and, with respect, there’s more of a mark-up on cocktails than chocolates.

“Why would you go into Wilmslow at night now? It’s only got Revolution. I want to help Wilmslow become a town where everyone floods into.”

Mr Midgelow, a professional golfer, has already been granted a license to serve alcohol at the premises that plans to open until 1am on Wednesdays, 2am on Thursdays and 3am on Fridays and Saturdays.

He also plans for the left unit to become a Jane Elizabeth Beauty Brow Bar, which already has a branch in Cheadle Hulme, which will be open from 9am until 8pm.

The application has been submitted to Cheshire East Council, with officers expected to make a decision by March 7.

The planning application, which has received no objections from Wilmslow Town Council’s planning committee, can be viewed on Cheshire East Council’s website.
