A brave fundraiser strapped herself to a plane and flew through the sky in memory of her late husband.

Bollington resident Chan Spratt, who is in her 70s, took part in the terrifying Wing Walk above Breighton in Yorkshire in aid of the Marie Curie charity and in memory of her husband Ron.

Marie Curie helps people living with any terminal illness and their families.

Chan decided to sign herself up for a wing walk to do something crazy and raise at least £5,000 for Marie Curie – which would pay for 250 hours of nursing care to terminally ill patients across Cheshire.

To date, Chan has received more than £6,000 in donations.

Chan, who is a member of the Macclesfield Marie Curie Fundraising Group, would like to thank her fellow group members for supporting her.

She chose to raise funds for Marie Curie after her husband of 50 years, Ron, was diagnosed with leukaemia and died in January 2014.

She said: “Out of the blue one winter evening I received a phone call from a Marie Curie nurse saying I needed a night’s sleep and she would be round at 10pm.

“True to her word she arrived at 10pm. I’m not the sort of person who could just fall asleep, so between us my husband was cared for through the night.

“What was good for me was I could talk about my fears with a person who was not connected to me but had seen and done so much in her nursing career. It was a great comfort.

“Ron passed away peacefully at home with me beside him.”

Jessica Herrington, community fundraiser in Macclesfield, said: “I want to say a massive thanks to Chan for organising her fundraising activity and to the group for supporting her.”
