THERE are plenty of classic postcard images – a donkey on the beach, the sun setting over the hills... But what picture best illustrates what Macclesfield has to offer?

That is the challenge Macclesfield Barnaby Festival organisers were posing as they launched a photography competition this week.

Amateur snappers are invited to send in photos they feel best meet the theme of 'A new view' of the town – and the winning four entries will be turned into limited edition postcards.

Organiser Jane Munro said: "We don't want the standard views across Macclesfield that are always shown – we want exciting images and to change people's perceptions a bit, not stereotypes.

"This really is something for everybody to get involved in, even if it's just on a camera phone."

Judging will be done by professional photographers and there is a separate category for under-16s, with schools being encouraged to take part.

Organiser and photographer Alex Wright, of teneight studios in Macclesfield, added: "Each photograph will reflect a different perspective and allow us to see the town through someone else’s eyes."

Entries will be displayed in the front windows of G Fine Art Gallery on Church Street and nearby estate agents during Macclesfield Barnaby Festival (18-20 June).

The final date for entries is midnight on Friday, May 7.
