Dog owners and their pets will take part in a sponsored walk to raise funds for the RSPCA.

The event has been organised by the RSPCA Macclesfield, SE Cheshire and Buxton branch and Stapeley Grange Wildlife Centre at Macclesfield Forest on Sunday.

The walk, which is supported by United Utilities and the Peak District National Park Authority, is to raise awareness of responsible dog ownership and spread the message about animal protection and conservation.

An RSPCA spokesman said:  “Macclesfield Forest is a conservation area with several walks which up to now have been open to members of the public, including dog walkers.

“However there is a significant problem with dog fouling on and off pathways and with dog walkers failing to control their pets.

“The RSPCA believe that something should be done to highlight responsible dog ownership whilst reinforcing the fact that Macclesfield Forest is an exceptional place and somewhere to be treated with the respect it deserves."

The walk is open anytime from 9am until 4pm and there will be details and registration at the visitor centre from 8am until 3pm.

There will also be a chance to take part in educational events which include quizzes, a competition, an RSPCA stall, tombola and of course refreshments.
