A £100,000 UPGRADE is on the cards for Beech Road Park in Alderley, with plans for a new play area, basketball court and special youth features.

Residents can get an idea of what is on the cards when the draft plans go on display at Alderley Library between Tuesday, February 27 and Tuesday March 13.

Debbie Jamison, project manager for Groundwork Cheshire, said: "If people want this plan to be realised then their support is needed in visiting the library, viewing the plans and making their comments on the survey forms provided."

Groundwork has worked with Alderley Parish Council and Macclesfield Borough Council to consult residents, come up with plans and help raise cash to get the park up to scratch.

It follows a request by parish council chairman Mary Maczkowiak, who first campaigned to upgrade facilities there as a teenager.

A survey of residents around the Beech Road area found top priorities are modern play equipment for children, a refurbished basketball area and a special feature for young people.

Everyone would like to see the natural beauty of the area enhanced and more seating provided to enjoy the surroundings.

It also found that the popular football space would benefit from better drainage.

If the project comes to fruition, Debbie warned that dog walkers may be asked to keep their pets on leads to reduce incidents of dog fouling.

Debbie called on residents to submit comments forms and let them know what they like and dislike about the scheme before it is set in stone.

She said: "Following comments from the public, the design will be reviewed and a master plan drawn up with cost estimates.

"This will then set the target for raising funds. We would hope to be in a position to start work on the site before the end of the year.

"The success of the project is very much dependant on the involvement of local people."
