A 46-year-old woman is in a critical condition in hospital after her car was in collision with a coach on the A34 in Macclesfield.
The accident happened at around 7:30am this morning, on the A34 Congleton Road between the Monks Heath traffic lights and the junction with Mill Lane.
There no passengers were on the coach, but the female driver of the Ford Fiesta saloon car involved in the smash had to be cut free by fire crews.
She was flown to Salford Royal hospital by air ambulance where she is said to be suffering from serious head injuries.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision. Anyone with information is asked to call 0845 458 0000 quoting incident number 125 of the 13th October.
A spokesman for Bostocks coaches said: " Our thoughts are with the lady lady driving the car and her family.
"We hope she makes a speedy recovery. It is fortunate that there weren't any passengers on board the bus."
Police are investigating the cause of the smash.
