The atmosphere was anything but flat as crowds turned out for Macclesfield Hospital’s annual charity pancake race yesterday.

Teams took it in turns to run up and down Mill Street while tossing pancakes for the event, organised in aid of the hospital’s MAST Appeal.

After a series of exciting heats, it was reigning champions The Flipping Tossers – Cheshire East Council’s Leisure and Play Development team – who once again battered the competition to win. The winners of the fancy dress competition were Pantastic Phenomenex, from Macclesfield based Phenomenex Ltd, with their handmade superhero costumes.

The race took place for the 14th time since it began in 1997, and early figures suggest more than £2,000 will be raised from the day.

This includes £300 from the street collection.

The appeal supports the Digital Mammography Fund, which is on course to raise the £150,000 it needs for a second digital breast scanner.
