Four horses have been left homeless after their stables blew down overnight.

Volunteers at Angels Rescue have launched an urgent appeal for help to replace the stables at their field on Whirley Road - built only last month - which they discovered this morning had been completely destroyed by the windy weather.

The shelters were being used by four rescued horses which luckily managed to escape but now have nowhere to take shelter.

The team of volunteers are asking people to help with wood, building materials, money and other donations to help them rebuild the stables as soon as possible, as well as people with the skills to help with the building.

They also need people to come forward if they can look after for the horses in the meantime.

Angela Leach, who helps run the charity which is managed by her daughter Emma Ryder, announced the urgent appeal for help this morning.

She said:  "It's so upsetting and has been such a stressful morning.  We were so shocked to see the stables destroyed like that - you'd have thought a tornado had gone through there.

"We need people's help in any way they can so we can get the stables back up soon, so our horses have somewhere to go.

"It's devastating, we worked so hard to get the stables and now they're gone."

Angels Rescue, set up 20 years ago, rehabilitates and rehomes abused, neglected and abandoned animals.

It has 20 horses at the moment, with the rest kept between stables at Bollington, a home on Withinlee Road in Prestbury, a field in Gawsworth and at Adlington Manor Nursing Home.

The stables on Whirley Road cost £1,700 collected after fundraising and donations.

The team offers the chance for people who have gone through physical and mental trauma to meet the horses and learn to groom them, as part of a course of Equine Assisted Therapy.

Angela said they would ultimately like to create a centre for people to visit with their carers.

She said:  "We are a charity relying on people's donations and fundraising.

"We've come a long way but it's so hard and we need as much help as we can get."The stables blowing down has been a massive blow and we don't know what to do.

"We hope people will be able to help us."
