MEMBERS of Macclesfield Aikido Club welcomed a special guest instructor to their ranks recently.

They were thrilled when seventh Dan Yamashima Sensei (pictured above, centre of front row) from Tokyo’s Aikido world headquarters took the Monday evening class at the club, based at St Barnabus’ church in Lyme Avenue.

One of the world’s most widely respected martial artists, the sensei was making a brief tour of clubs within the British Aikido Federation and gave an enjoyable class to students of all levels, from beginners to experienced practitioners.

The club practices at Lyme Avenue on Monday and Wednesday evenings and at Hollinhey Primary School on Thursdays.

The club welcomes new students to a friendly environment under the tutelage of fifth Dan instructor Alan Rowley.
