The Beeb enjoyed a beer when two famous faces descended on Macclesfield’s pub of the year for a night.

TV wine expert Oz Clarke and funnyman Hugh Dennis, backed by their BBC entourage, took a break from filming a new booze show to spend several hours at Bollington’s Vale Inn.

Landlord Lee Wainwright said: "They were filming at the Robinsons brewery in Stockport the next day and were staying at Shrigley Hall for the night.

"They spent three or four hours here. They were really friendly and really interested in the business and the beer. They talked a lot about the beer because that is what the series is about."

The pub, which won the Express Pub of the Year competition earlier this year, brews its own beers, which proved particularly popular with the twosome, who ate there too.

"They both liked the Long Hop, which is the cricket beer we brew ourselves and is very popular. They tried all six different beers by the end," said Lee, 37, who runs the pub with partner Kirsten and lives upstairs.

"They just turned up. We were a bit shocked when we first saw them. Hopefully, we will be in the next series.

The two stars, who were accompanied by a research and production team, are filming a follow-up to their BBC Christmas special ‘Oz and Hugh drink to Christmas’.

Oz Clarke has previously co-presented Oz and James’ Big Wine Adventure with Top Gear’s James May. Hugh Dennis stars in the BBC1 comedy hit Outnumbered.
