A Macclesfield police officer has been put on restricted duties after admitting drink driving.

Myles Hughes, 34, of Moss Lane, Macclesfield, pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol at Macclesfield Magistrates Court on Monday (September 14).

The father of three is a neighbourhood constable in Hazel Grove, Stockport, where he is based at Offerton School.

He remains a serving officer with Greater Manchester Police and was not required to attend court.

The Express understands that ‘special reasons’ were given for his non-appearance.

Hughes was not on duty when he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol in Macclesfield at 11.45pm on April 28.

A subsequent alcohol reading at Cheshire Police’s Middlewich custody suite of 85mg in 100ml of blood was narrowly over the legal limit of 80mg.

Hughes is thought to have been drinking in the Flower Pot on Congleton Road on the evening of his arrest.

His case is being handled by Cheshire Police, but an investigation has also been launched by Greater Manchester Police’s Professional Standards Branch.

He will remain on restricted duties until his sentencing hearing, which is due to take place on November 12, at Macclesfield Magistrates Court.

When the Macclesfield Express approached Hughes for a response yesterday, he refused to make any comment.

No one from Offerton School was available for comment as the Express went to press.
